The Lorem Ipsum Generator I posted about a couple of months back has been a pretty popular attraction. It’s especially interesting considering the generator I reference in the post is over 6 years old. The fact is, I don’t think I even realized how long the site had been around at the time I posted. I had just discovered the site and was eager to share it with visitors & readers.

One of the most interesting things about the traffic coming into the lorem ipsum post is that many of the posts visitors came through search engines using the terms “lorem ipsum Firefox generator“, “lorem ipsum Firefox addon” or “lorem ipsum generator for Firefox“. It wasn’t until then that I had even considered the idea of a Lorem Ipsum generator extension for Firefox As it turns out the Firefox extension has been available since 2006. How do I keep missing this stuff? 
With that in mind, I thought I’d share the awesome Firefox addon even though it’s not necessarily new, it’s kinda new to me and it might be new to you too.
Dummy Ipsum
As cool as the lipsum.com online lorem ipsum generator is, this just makes it even better. The Dummy Lipsum Firefox addon introduces a browser toolbar button and adds a new right click menu option that allow you to tap into the function of the lipsum.com tool with-out opening a separate window or tab. The tool bar button opens a panel where you select the number of paragraphs or words to generate, select whether to insert punctuation, and choose to whether or not to start with “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet…”. The generated content can be added to the clipboard with the click of a button it’s paste-ready.
Text Field Auto Fill
In addition to generating as much lorem ipsum as you need, the Firefox addon has another trick up it’s sleeve. Right clicking inside any form input field you’ll find a new option to “Insert Dummy Ipsum” which, when clicked, will automatically fill the input field with as much lorem ipsum as the you have specified in the addons options menu.
Dummy Lipsum Options
The Dummy Lipsums options menu allows you to set the default ‘number’ of ‘paragraphs/words’, whether or not to include punctuation and even allows you to define special characters you might need to see included (IE dollar signs, ampersands, arrows, fractions and any other special characters you might need to use in the design you’re testing out.

This is truly a great add-on for Firefox that I find myself using more and more as I indulge in to the design industry. The greatness of this plug-in is that its just one click away from place holder content. I use this mostly for web design but find myself using it for flyers and sign design. This is defiantly one add on no designer should be without!
